Gorgeous Antique Viss of Arak, Tribal Rug
5' 7" x 3' 7"
Incredibly attractive Viss (Wiss) design rug woven in the Arak area. This Viss design is well recognized around the world and beloved by collectors. Though it is often replicated, the original Viss design originating in Arak captivate the charm of this ancient design best.
Featuring an entirely Persian wool pile on a sturdy cotton foundation, this rug was masterfully woven utilizing the weaving style of the region. Rugs in this are have incredible lasting quality, due to the quality of materials and excellent craftsmanship of the artisans.
Though not always woven by tribal people, due to the large tribal population of Viss their famed design is heavily inspired by tribal designs. The unique medallions enclosed by claw-like frames are a signature aspect of this design. They feature bold contrasting shades of pinks, blues and golds that help showcase their unique features. These lovely rugs look good on any floor and with any decor, which is why they are absolutely loved by collectors and interior designers.
Despite being near 100 years of age, this rug is in remarkable original condition. Some signs of ware are apparent on the binding and the pile is not as thick as it once was, but regardless time has one some amazing things to this piece. The colors have softened naturally only adding to its beauty.
This piece, like the rest of our collection, was hand-picked by Persian Rug expert and Shiraz native, Jason Dadras. Each piece was acquired through the relationships he forged around the world. Our rugs are ethically sourced and have been legally imported.
